| WINNER UPDATE: Matt Cusson Signs with Spectra Records It was announced last month that folk duo Madison Violet had won the 2009 Maxell Song of the Year award, the highest honor that the John Lennon Songwriting Contest offers. The JLSC staff looks forward to Madison Violet’s continued success in years to come, both on tour and in the recording studio. Winning the Maxell Song of the Year is a huge milestone in an artist’s career. 2008 Song of the Year winner Matt Cusson would surely agree with this statement, as his musical endeavors have continued to flourish since last July, when he was surprised by his touring partner, Brian McKnight, the JLSC executive director, Brian Rothschild, and Maxell president, Masuru Kamemoto, with the $20,000 prize check. In recent months when not on tour, Cusson took his talents to television where he performed as part of the house band on The Brian McKnight Show. Now he is back on the road – Cusson was selected to sing as part of the international “Man in the Mirror” tour, a Michael Jackson tribute currently in Europe. Performers on tour have hopes that “Man in the Mirror” will add dates in America and Asia in the future. On Thursday, July 22, 2010, Cusson announced some of his most exciting news yet: Spectra Records has signed him to an international distribution deal for the song that earned him his JLSC prizes, “One of Those Nights.” This is a truly exciting adventure for Cusson, and with the great potential for success of his single on Spectra Records there is a possibility that he could release a full album through the label. | Matt's newsletter received today.... Hey all! Just quickly catching you up on everything that's been happening with Matt. So far 2010 has treated him kindly, and he want you all to be a part of it! First of, Matt got put on as a singer on the Michael Jackson Tribute Tour, "Man In The Mirror". It's been getting rave reviews and he couldn't be happier being a part of such a huge production honoring one of his favorite artists. The show is currently touring Europe and more shows are being added daily, with talks of an Asian tour and an American tour, with hopes of landing on Broadway someday! The shows schedule is at the bottom of this email. If you're near, come out, I promise you won't be disappointed. 2nd, Matt's song "One of Those Nights" (winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and 2nd place in the International Songwriting Contest) will officially be released as a jazz single world wide with Spectra Records. This is a huge opportunity for Matt, so when it does get released, please support and buy you're copy of the song to help get it out there, and SPREAD THE WORD! If the single does well, there will be an entire jazz album to come! Below is the press release that was written when Matt signed. Matt's full album will be taken off online stores for a bit and re-released without "One of Those Nights" in a matter of weeks. Matt also offered his song "Every Step" for the album 'C Notes for Haiti'. All money made will go to support the Haiti Relief Fund. Matt is also playing at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, opening for Taylor Hicks, to raise funds for the SOS Children's Fund.
